How this was counted. Ranked by upvotes, not by how many people said it — the only list here counted that way. Every other tally on this site counts distinct people, which needs a readable thread. This one has 18,206 comments and cannot be read: Reddit serves 500 at a time and the sorts other than top return almost nothing on an archived thread this size. But asking for the top-level answers alone returns them with their scores, and on a thread this big the score is the crowd — 19,000 people pressed the arrow on Chernobyl, which no partial head-count could improve on. Where several people named the same episode the scores are added, so a few rows are worth more than the single answer that carried them. What this loses is the long tail: an episode named once by someone nobody upvoted scores 9, and sits at the bottom next to genuine obscurities. Four answers were dropped for naming nothing identifiable, one of them a 700-point rant about Reddit itself.
